In Thailand we support two day care centers in Phuket Town, the main city of Phuket Island, in the deep south of Thailand. Both day care centers are home to kids from 1 to 5 years old from the slums, from disadvantaged family backgrounds, or are prisoners' children.
The centers provide them breakfast, lunch, shower, personal hygiene care, education of basical english and thai, activities and, most of all, many huggs.
This assistance helps the children who, in the original background, don't even know how to brush their teeths.
We especially make the difference for the children who have mothers in jail. The kids can stay with the mothers in prison only during the night, up to 3 years. After this age they don't have any support and no chance to see their mothers.
SOHO also helps families in the slums, especially single and young mothers.
We also are plannning to make attention to the reality of child prostitution, sadly famous in Phuket Island.

1. REFUELLING FOR THE CHILDREN OF OUR DAY CARE CENTERS IN PHUKET
Milk, diapers, vaccines, shampoo for lies, crayons, books, food, medical care...
The 50/60 kids of each day care center are in need of many things. Some of them do not have a family. Those who have it often don't recive the tratment they need.
That's why, in our centers, we try to give them our best. Our volunteers teach them to brush their teeth, to take a shower, they feed them, they teach them english and follow them in their activities.
SOHO is commited to buy what they need. A member of our staff personally takes care of purchase of goods, in this way everything is clear and direct.
2. CARE AND SUPPORT FOR MOTHERS IN THE SLUMS, FOR MOTHERS IN PRISON, FOR POOR FAMILIES
In Thailand the prison is a hard and sad reality: many women are forced into prostitution or selling drugs to feed their children. In prison they can recive just one visit every month.
and often they do not have enough space to sleep relaxed. Kids stay with their mothers until the age of a few months, after which they may only sleep at night with their mothers and by day we welcome them to our centers, otherwise they would not have a place to stay. After 3 years, the child no longer has any right to stay in jail, that's who take over our centers that have a few beds to accommodate those who have a family to stay.
Visit a Thai prison is a very strong and, at times, can be shocking. Women are not accustomed to visits and often, in front of our questions about what they would like, they respond books, fans, whatever can help them entertain during their long and bleak days. We try, as much as possible, to give some small gifts to women who would like to receive. Just go and visit in prison is, for them, a source of great joy and emot

Sun was born the 27th of November 2010.
His is just one of the stories about povery in the slums. The mother, a young woman from the boarder with Malaysia, struggle to feed 3 children. Thanks to our day care center Sun has a meal everyday, he learned to write and the mother was able to find a job as gardener during the morning. The president of SOHO has decided to support him. This sponsorship gave him the opportunity to go to school, have new clothes and a meal also every evening.
