GHANA

Benedict is a one-and-a-half-year-old child. He is one of the many orphans that live in the orphanage we support in Dodowa. His mother has a serious psychological disease. She carried two babies full term, who she got from two
different men she did not know. Both children were abandoned. The second one is Benedict. His mother gave him
birth directly within the orphanage and then ran away. She is seen walking around the village crying out aggressively that they took her baby away from her, but she doesn't even remember his name and where he is. She is an outsider, she is considered dangerous and possessed by evil. Little Benedict is a very sweet child. He helps adults in the daily routine, he even carries wood and stones, if needed. And he definitely loves when he is told stories.

OUR CENTER IN GHANA

In Ghana, we operate in Dodowa, a rural village situated about 2 hours away from the capital city, Accra. Here an
orphanage was built, which hosts around 150-200 children of different ages. The sanitary conditions are very difficult: children do not have drinkable water, nor mosquito nets; many of them do not even have a bed, and malaria is very common. Often they cannot eat twice a day. For these reasons, building a new orphanage is the main priority for SOHO here, since the existing one is falling down after the latest storms. The new project also includes the creation of a small vegetable garden where growing own products, a school and a medical clinic to cope with the daily issues of children.
By the end of 2015 we would like to start here a project for the support of single mothers in bad economical
situations, so that to prevent them from abandoning their own children.

SPONSORSHIP IN GHANA

1.  HEALTH CARE FOR CHILDREN OF THE ORPHANAGE IN DODOWA

  • Soho will take care of a little village in the heart of Ghana: Dodowa. Some years ago, Mama Jane, a wonderful Ghanaian woman, built an orphanage that now is hosting 200 children, the POTTER VILLAGE.

African typical diseases, such as malaria, kill constantly many people, especially children. Because of dust, dirt and wetness any infection is dangerous, even that caused by a mosquito prick. Since they cannot get a proper treatment, children develop more easily physical problems, which are routine in the Western world.                                                      Like Jaow, a child who was born with a foot deformity: he was not surgically treated and now he has a handicap. Another example is that of a little girl that lives in the orphanage as well, who suffers from epilepsy. Since she is not receiving the right treatment, she often falls down (last time she dangerously hit her mouth onto a stone, this caused her an infection that was treated too late).

SOHO would like to buy an allotment in the village where to build a clinic. Here children will be able to get first-aid assistance without having to go to the hospital in the capital city, which is far away and very expensive. Moreover, periodically we would like to send here doctors and healthcare assistants for free, in order to give the children constant help. Buying a SOHO proprietary allotment will allow us to build the clinic independently and provide it with the basic medical equipment for small emergencies.

If you feel it is the right time to give your support to these children in order to guarantee them a longer life expectancy, please donate now to SOHO. Thanks to your help, we will succeed in our mission.
